Civil Engineering Test | QA 002

Friends !

I told in my post No. QA 001 that I would definitely reply to your doubt placed in the comment box of the particular post. One of my dear student, Miss Rexona Khatoon, has sought a clarification on Q. No. 1.04. The question is as follows:
If 15% of rebate on total amount is Rs.54, then the total amount is Rs ?

A. Algebra Method:
Let, the total amount = T
Then, T x (15/100) = 54
T = 54 x 100/15 = Rs. 360/

B. Arithmetic Method
Rs. 15 discount is for Rs. 100
Rs.   1 discount is for Rs 100/15
Rs. 54 discount is for Rs.(100/15) x 54
= Rs. 360/

C. Trial and Error Method
Discount for Rs. 100 = 15
Discount for Rs. 200 = 30
Discount for Rs. 300 = 45
Discount for Rs. 320 = 45+1.5 x 2 = 48
Discount for Rs. 340 = 48+3 = 51
Discount for Rs. 360 = 51+3 = 54
It matches with question value.
Hence Answer = Rs. 360/

D. Elimination Method
If D is correct answer then
Rebate = 330 x 0.15 = 49.50 Mismatch
If C is correct answer then
Rebate = 180 x 0.15 = 27.00 Mismatch
If B is correct answer then
Rebate = 540 x 0.15 = 81.00 Mismatch
If A is correct answer then
Rebate = 360 x 0.15 = 54.00 Match
Hence Answer = Rs. 360/

So you see one problem can be solved in so many ways.

Now come to the test. I would like to remind you to test yourself first and then to see all answers. Otherwise you are detracting your success.
